RX-78GP02 Physalis Gundam Synopsis: The GP02 had been awaited by many eager to have the nemesis for their GP01 and GP01fb figures. What the fans here in the U.S. were greeted with, however was a figure with an unusual white paint scheme and a deluxe release missing out in terms of accessories. The Arms usually suffer the worst complaints given their failure to hold the shield sufficiently without the support of the ground or toe. Complements of the arms can be applied to the ability to move well in the presence of the bulky Shoulder armor. The shoulder armor can turn up to reveal the 3 vernier thrusters in a firm manner allowing for better posing. The elbows bend 90 degrees and the figure comes only with the following 1 Left-handed "sword" hand for the shield and 1 right-handed gun hand. The left "sword" hand is tight enough to hold the shield snuggly, now if the entire arm were stronger we would have no complaints to falter. The Legs look bulky however range of motion is not hindered here. The leg is unhindered by flexible skirt armor, the knees features 90 degree bending and the ankles are marginally limited by the ankle armor. The Torso is well detailed however the torso does not twist much at the waist due to some restriction within the hip armor. The backpack is unimpressive though that is more in part a product of the Gundams original design and not a fault of the figure. The Accessories: The original GP02's Accessory loadout was pretty disappointing yet understandable due to the bulk of the shield however this shortcoming was somewhat corrected later in the Battle Scarred Remake. Atomic Bazooka: The main armament of the GP02. Like in the series the bazooka is collapsible in two pieces. The main barrel fits in the shield while the section holding the magazine connects to a ball joint on the rear right shoulder. The Bazooka is held well however the right shoulder armor must be folded down. Shield: This shield is very thick and too heavy for the figure to wield effectively. The Shield's gimmick is the storage of the Bazooka Barrel. The handle connects to the shield wrapping around the barrel of the bazooka to store it. Beam Sabers: The Melee weapon of the GP02 these green bladed sabers are nicely done with the exception of the hilts being too thick. Play Value: The figure is not going to normally be the figure of choice in terms of play value but who can say no to a nuke toting Gundam? Display Value: GP02 has odd white paint scheme that serves as an eyesore that is likely to draw attention though not the type of attention you want. The Bazooka armed on this figure may serve as a redeeming quality however to some it may not be enough. The failure to pose the shield well can lead to a boring pose however that is up to you. Conclusion: A plain Paintjob, light accessory load, and poor ability to manage one of the figure's chief accessories hurt the potential of this figure greatly. | ![]() | ![]() |
